McDonald's Threatened with Lawsuit Over Toys

The group, Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) has threatened to sue McDonald's fast-food chain if it continues to give away toys with its Happy Meals.

CSPI claims that "McDonald's is in violation of consumer protection laws in Massachusetts, Texas, the District of Columbia, New Jersey, and California," as reported by Legal Newsline.

According to the LA Times, CSPI objects to any toys being included in any food promotion aimed at children.  CSPI said that "the plastic promotions lure children into McDonald's restaurants where they are then likely to order food that is too high in calories, fat and salt."

McDonald's disagrees, as reported by CBS News, saying that, "[w]e are proud of our Happy Meal which gives our customers wholesome food and toys of the highest quality and safety ... [g]etting a toy is just one part of a fun family experience at McDonald's."  McDonald's stated that "they are now using Shrek themed promotions to convince kids to make healthier choices."
