On Thursday, July 23, 2009, the Colorado Department of Health and Environment announced a recall of ground beef by King Soopers, Inc. The nearly one-half million pound ground beef recall was issued out of concern the beef may be contaminated with Salmonella. The beef was sold in Colorado in King Soopers and City Market grocery stores. To read the Colorado Department of Health and Environment press release to learn more about the products affected and the symptoms for salmonella click here.This recall for salmonella comes two days after Tanimura & Antle, Inc. ordered a recall of romaine lettuce after a random test conducted by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture discovered salmonella. To read yesterday’s post on the lettuce recall click here. To date 14 people in Colorado have fallen ill from salmonella following consumption of ground beef.
