Leadership in the U.S. House of Representatives have
named the legislators who will negotiate and reconcile the Water Resources
Development Act, which passed both the House and Senate earlier this year,
according to a Farm Futures article available here. A post from this blog on the Senate conferees
appointed earlier this month is available here.
The Water Resources Development Act of 2013, S.601 and H.R. 3080,
authorizes the Army Corps of Engineers to carry out waterways infrastructure
projects, improving conditions for commercial shippers and agricultural
trade. The legislation also
“de-authorizes old construction projects to alleviate the Corps’ $60 billion
project backlog and allows non-federal funding of waterways projects.”
One inconsistency which will need to be addressed
between the bills is the lack of an EPA Spill Prevention Control and
Countermeasure exemption in the House bill.
The 16 Republicans and 12 Democrats who were named to
the conference are:
Bill Shuster (R-PA), John J. Duncan, Jr. (R-TN), Frank
LoBiodo (R-NJ), Sam Graves (R-MO), Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Candice Miller
(R-MI), Duncan Hunter (R-CA), Larry Bucshon (R-IN), Bob Gibbs (R-OH), Richard
Hanna (R-NY), Daniel Webster (R-FL), Tom Rice (R-SC), Markwayne Mullin (R-OK),
Rodney Davis (R-IL), Doc Hastings (R-WA), Rob Bishop (R-UT), Nick J. Rahall, II
(D-WV), Peter DeFazio (D-OR), Corrine Brown (D-FL), Eddie Bernice Johnson
(D-TX), Tim Bishop (D-NY), Donna Edwards (D-MD), John Garamendi (D-CA), Janice
Hahn (D-CA), Rick Nolan (D-MN), Lois Frankel (D-FL), Cheri Bustos (D-IL), and
Grace Napolitano (D-CA).
