The United States and Japan will try to find common
ground on agricultural trade and other issues at the next round of negotiations
for a Pacific Rim trade agreement, according to a Reuters article available here.
U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman and Japanese
Economy Minister Akira Amari met in Washington recently and agreed to work
toward a comprehensive agreement at the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) talks. “Ambassador Froman and Minister Amari agreed
on the importance of narrowing differences between the United States and Japan
on agriculture and other market access and rules issues,” said Froman’s office.
Other countries involved in the TPP negotiations
include Australia, Brunei, Chile, Canada, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore
and Vietnam.
