Conservation Innovation Grants Ready to Go: NRCS Announces Awardees

Promising technologies and programs aimed at enhancing conservation and natural resource protection are set to get a booster shot of federal funding.

As Beef Magazine reports, the USDA announced the Fiscal Year 2009 Conservation Innovation Grants (CIG) awardees on July 13, 2009. During a speech at the Soil and Water Conservation Society’s annual meeting in Dearborn, Michigan Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that $18.4 million has been awarded to fund 55 projects. Given that awardees are required to provide matching funds, the total monetary backing of the projects is equal to $36.4 million. To read the Beef Magazine article click here.
