It appears as though by the end of 2009 the world’s largest open ocean aquaculture operation will be formed as Open Blue Sea Farms has announced an agreement to acquire the majority of assets of Pristine Oceans.

Both Open Blue Sea Farms and Pristine Oceans, which has been managed by Open Blue since August 1, 2009, farm cobia fish in Panama “because of the fish`s rapid growth rate, nutrition, rare taste and texture.” Reuter’s reports that Open Blue’s ‘"free-range fish farming’ combines the efficiencies of submerged nets with high growth, native fish species to decrease disease risk and cultivate a superior dining product.”

Open Blue Sea Farms sustainable “‘free-range”’ open ocean aquaculture is the result of decades of research to develop profitable, efficient system. The fish produced are considered high quality and is distributed throughout the United States.
