Yesterday, August, 3, 2009, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Deputy Secretary Kathleen Merrigan announced the recipients of $155 million in grants and loans for environmental and water projects that are being funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
According to the USDA news release, the money will fund 36 water infrastructure projects in 15 states and Puerto Rico. The various projects aim to improve wastewater treatment and water delivery infrastructures in rural communities. The USDA has announced $1.29 billion in grants and loans for environmental and water projects. The USDA’s Rural Development’s Water and Environmental Program will administer the funding.
