Today, September 10, 2009, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Tom Vilsack announce that 27 different projects are set to receive a combined total of $17.5 million in funding for community facilities projects located in rural areas. The funding is provided through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), which, to date, has provided $252.5 million in funding for community facilities through the USDA.Vilsack stated in the USDA news release that ‘“[f]acilities such as libraries, public buildings and community centers bring vitality to small towns and cities and these Recovery Act investments will benefit people throughout the
country . . . The Obama Administration is committed to strengthening communities in rural areas and these investments will help further that goal.’”
Among the funding recipients are an abused children’s center, libraries, and hospital expansion projects.
In addition to the money provided by USDA Rural Development, recipients will also invest 48.2 million in funding from other sources. To see a complete list of recipients or to read the USDA news release click here.
