Missouri AG Appeals 2008 CAFO Ruling

In 2008 Cole County, Missouri Judge Patricia Joyce ruled in a trial case that a confined animal feeding operation could not be located within 15 miles of the historic Missouri village of Arrow Rock. Later the buffer was reduced to two miles and farms located in that radius “were barred from expanding” according to an Associated Press story.

Now, the Attorney General of Missouri, Chris Koster, is appealing that ruling. The AP reports that Koster supports ‘“expanded buffer zones’ between the farms and state parks, waterways and historic sites.” Koster believes Joyce’s 2008 ruling creates unanswered questions as to how to create the buffer zones, and so on Wednesday Koster filed an appeal to the 2008 ruling.

According to the AP story, the Missouri Farm Bureau has also appealed, while environmental groups “had urged state officials to not appeal Joyce’s ruling.”
