As was published in the Federal Register on November 6, 2009, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is currently seeking nominations for candidates to sit on the Farm, Ranch, and Rural Communities Committee (FRRCC). The EPA’s Federal Register announcement says the agency is looking for a diverse range of candidates.The EPA estimates it will start filling vacancies by spring 2010. Therefore, application materials from nominees should be submitted by December 31, 2009. Information that must be submitted by all nominees includes the name, occupation, organization, position, a resume, a brief statement describing the nominees’ interest, and other basic contact information.
Here is how the EPA describes ideal candidates in the Federal Register
“In selecting Committee members, EPA will seek candidates who possess: extensive professional knowledge of agricultural issues and environmental policy; a demonstrated ability to examine and analyze complicated environmental issues with objectivity and integrity; excellent interpersonal as well as oral and written communication skills; and an ability and willingness to participate in a deliberative and collaborative process. In addition, well qualified applicants must be prepared to process a substantial amount of complex and technical information, and have the ability to volunteer approximately 10 to 15 hours per month to the Committee’s activities, including participation in teleconference meetings and preparation of text for Committee reports.”The FRRCC was established on October 17, 2007 by the EPA to be part of the agency’s National Strategy for Agriculture. The FRRCC will operate under the rules of the Federal Advisory Committee Act “to advise the Administrator on environmental policy issues impacting farms, ranches, and rural communities.”
