Rural Water Projects Funded

Nineteen states are going to get a boost from the federal government to help improve their rural water infrastructure.

Today US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Tom Vilsack announced, via news release, that $116.9 million in funding is being provided from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The $116.9 million brings the total funding for water projects in the Recovery Act to $2.08 billion.

The funds are provided in the form of loans or grants. Secretary Vilsack stated in the USDA release, ‘"Recovery Act projects are helping rural communities of all sizes build a foundation for economic strength, future prosperity, and a healthy environment . . .The projects we're announcing today will help create jobs while rebuilding America's infrastructure."’

Since the projects are for rural development it is natural that the USDA Rural Development’s Water and Environmental Program will administer the disbursements of the funds.
