Closing arguments started and concluded yesterday in the months long poultry litter litigation in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In Oklahoma’s closing arguments, the state’s attorneys argued that a moratorium should be put into place until the court could adopt sufficient controls over its application in the Illinois River Watershed. The state’s attorneys pointed out that the moratorium could be lifted at any time after the standards were put in place. To view the Tulsa World article by Curtis Killman, click here.
The poultry industry argued the moratorium was not necessary because of the economic hardships it would cause on the poultry industry and the cattle industry. The poultry industry pointed out that the growers are complying with Oklahoma law in the application of the litter.
A decision by the judge is not expected to be coming soon, and probably will happen months down the road.
