Regional Water Summit in Missouri on April 19, 2010

On April 19, 2010 Congressmen Roy Blunt (MO), John Boozman (AR), and Dan Boren (OK) will participate in the Multi-State Regional Water Supply Summit at Crowder College in Neosho, Missouri. This is the first time the summit will have the participation of three congressmen. The day-long conference will feature panels, discussion groups, and speakers, according to the press release from Congressman Dan Boren's office.

Boren states in the press release that, '"[w]ater as a resource is not only critical to economic growth at the local and regional level, it is also absolutely vital to maintaining our quality of life . . . It is an honor to join my colleagues . . . at the conference this year to discuss how we can successfully maintain water quality and quantity for future generations of our constituents."'

Rep Blunt, who helped establish the bi-district conference, stated that this year's conference will focus on maintaining water quality and access. Rep. Boozman stated, '"Regional water supplies can be affected by many factors . . . Our objective in hosting this event is to encourage our communities to be forward-thinking so that we are prepared to deal with . . . challenge when it occurs."'

The first session will look in water resources issues featuring three panels. There will be presenters from Springfield City Utilities, the University of Arkansas, US Army Corps of Engineers, the Southwest Power Resources Association, the US Geological Service, the Poultry Federations, and representatives from the tourism industry. The panelists will respond to questions from both the members of Congress as well as the public. The afternoon session will be "directed" by the Multi-Basin Regional Water Council. This session will feature a roundtable discussion on the relevant issues relating to water.

Again, the summit is at Crowder College in the Farber Building, 601 Laclede Ave. The event is free and open to the public. However, because of space limitations and lunch availability, those planning on attending should RSVP to 417-781-1041. The summit starts at 9 a.m.
