CA Bill Would Prohibit Sale of Eggs

The California Senate passed a bill requiring that all eggs sold in the state must come from hens raised in compliance with Proposition 2.  Proposition 2, passed in 2008, adds a chapter to Division 20 of the California Health and Safety Code and prohibits the confinement of specific farm animals in a manner which prevents the animal from "lying down, standing up, ... fully extending his or her limbs" and "turning around freely."

Violators would face up to 180 days in jail or a $1,000 fine.
