President Obama names Ag/Food Advisor

President Obama has named David Lazarus to fill the agriculture/food advisor slot on the White House Domestic Policy Council staff, according to Brownfield Ag News.

The position has been open for the past 18 months and many are happy to have it filled as the Farm Bill discussions continue.  Lazarus is currently a senior advisor to Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack and will move to his new position at the White House today, July 12.  He is "respected for being intelligent, analytical, quick on the uptake and pragmatic in his policy work."

Lazarus started his career in Senator Richard Durbin's office and rose quickly, eventually becoming "chief staff architect for Durbin's bipartisan comprehensive food safety bill, S.510, a bill enjoying producer, food industry and consumer support."  He then moved to Obama's rural outreach campaign team, transition team, and "was one of the first staffers to join Vilsack" when he was named Secretary of Agriculture.
