Sen. Lincoln Urges Priority for Child Nutrition Reauthorization

Senator Blanche Lincoln, D-AR, and Congressman George Miller, D-CA, sent a letter to President Obama "urging him to make child nutrition reauthorization a top legislative priority before current programs expire on September 30."

Reports on childhood obesity and the health of children have been prominent recently with First Lady Michelle Obama launching the "Let's Move" campaign.  President Obama created a White House Task Force on Childhood Obesity which released a report, available here.  Additionally, the dismal state of summer nutrition programs in the United States has been in the news.  Click here to read a US Ag&Food Law and Policy Blog Post on this subject.

The letter asks for the President's support and mentions that while reauthorization of child nutrition has strong support in congress, the deadline of September 30 is nearing and may be difficult to meet.
