NASDA Requests Deadline Extension

The National Association of State Departments of Agriculture has requested that the EPA extend the deadline for label changes of soil fumigants. EPA's original deadline of December 1 was "overly optimistic," according to the letter in which NASDA requested the deadline be moved to December 31.

NASDA requested the extension to allow growers the time they need to gain access to products that require early application. The fumigant labels that will be affected by the changes are chloropicrin, dazomet, metam sodium/potassium, and methyl bromide.

An April 19 letter from NASDA also expressed concern that the agency's deadline may be too aggressive to be met, making the recent request for an extension the second effort at informing the agency of the potential trouble of completing the label changes in keeping with the December 1 timeline.
