At his ‘Rural Tour’ stop in West Salem, Wisconsin today USDA Secretary Vilsack announced the availability of $760 million in direct loans to farmers and producers.
The money was made available through the Supplemental Appropriations Act signed by President Obama. The money will be used for previously approved, yet unfunded, direct farm ownership and operating loans. “There are currently 1,800 family farmers with approved but unfunded loans for $360 million” (USDA).
