Ken Anderson is reporting for Brownfield’s Ag News that a group of individuals representing the beef industry and academia are forming and independent commission that will focus on the health of beef cattle. The commission would provide solely advisory information. The commission, called the North American Food Animal Well-being Commission for Beef will consists of animal health experts. Their primary advocacy will be for research funding focused on animal health, and they will push for research results to be made available in a “more timely manner.” The group will also promote “best management practices in cattle health and welfare.”
The commission says they will operate as an unbiased, “science-and production- based group.”
Outreach efforts will extend to all levels of the beef chain, from production to consumption, and to all stakeholders. To read more about the commission and their membership click here. To read Anderson’s article for Brownfield’s click here.
