Hearings on the 2012 Farm Bill have begun earlier than usual. Some say that budgetary issues and an uncertain political climate have prompted the early start of hearings before writing the 2012 Farm Bill. Blanche Lincoln, the Chairwoman of the Senate Agriculture Committee, commented, “As we look toward the upcoming farm bill, I will use these hearings to gather feedback on how the current bill is working and lay the ground work for the future of our nation’s farm, nutrition, conservation, rural development, research, forestry and energy priorities.”
In a statement on June 1, Lincoln stated that the Senate hearings will be targeted at “maintaining a sound U.S. farm policy to protect our most vital resource - our food supply.”
