Colorado Agricultural Exports Rise

Colorado's agricultural exports rose 27 percent in the first half of the year compared with the same period last year to $508.9 million, according to the Associated Press.

The state experienced a "nearly 91 percent increase in state exports of hides which are used in car interiors, purses, shoes, belts and jackets" and nationally "hide exports were up 61 percent."  Exports of milk, eggs, honey, and other food, grains, seeds and fruit also rose.

Tim Larsen of the Colorado Department of Agriculture's markets division "said he was eager to see whether an uptick in hide imports is an early sign of global economic activity picking up."  South Korea and Mexico have also reduced some barriers to importing US beef recently.
