Last week, the White House submitted a trio of Free Trade Agreements to Congress for approval. The trade agreements are with Colombia, Panama and South Korea. These agreements have been in the works for years and have faced a bumpy ride on the way to ratification.A long list of farm advocates and commodity organizations have lined up to support passage of the FTAs. The National Cotton Council stated that the approval of the Colombia FTA "will enhance U.S. competitiveness and benefit farmers and manufacturers by removing the tariffs which are currently applied to U.S. products."
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack stated that the FTAs "will support tens of thousands of jobs and add billions of dollars in economic activity to our economy."
